TerraTime An Amazing Android App!

Terra Time iconTerraTime is an application for Android Smartphone’s and tablets which puts you in touch with the natural, global rhythm of daylight, weather, and seasons. A visually stunning real-time virtual Earth app. It’s fed by satellite imagery to display day/night, clouds, seasons, sun, moon and more. Day/night clock (with widget) tracks phases of the moon, sunrise, sunset and transit times.

The Globe The World in the Palm of your Hand:

A live view of 3D simulation of the Earth in space! Turn your phone to see the other side of the planet; give the globe a spin with the touch-screen. The night shadow travels across the globe, seasonal changes come and go, and the clouds move every few hours.

The TerraTime Globe is built on the fly from high-resolution NASA images, rendered with your phone’s 3-D hardware, and uses it’s position sensors to respond to your movements. The result is an engaging, astronaut’s-eye view of a virtual Earth on your device’s screen. A static screenshot doesn’t begin to do it justice; you really need to try it for yourself!

In addition to controlling your viewpoint over the planet, you also have a full range of other options:

  • Specify how frequently the day/night line on the globe will refresh
  • Turn on the night side, city lights, clouds, polar sea ice, stars, sun, and moon for the full photo-realistic effect
  • Or, turn all these layers off, effectively giving you a virtual classroom globe on your phone
  • Orient the globe relative to either the ecliptic or terrestrial poles
  • Southern-hemisphere users might like to know that they can place the South Pole on top!
  • Zoom in for more detail, or zoom out from the earth to see the moon up close. Includes multi-touch zoom
  • Add globe widgets to your home screen, in a variety of sizes
  • Use the globe as a live wallpaper, showing its real-time simulation in the background of your device’s home screen

Clock – A clock with a twist:

The face is partitioned into day and night, showing at a glance how many hours of each are remaining. It also shows sunrise, solar noon, sunset, twilight, moon visibility, and stars – all accurate for today at your current location. You can add the TerraTime Clock to your device’s home screen as a widget, giving you at-a-glance access to its features – as well as the current time, of course

Compass Mode

A variation on the TerraTime Clock is called Compass Mode, accessed through the app’s Menu. It displays a live compass dial showing the direction to the sun and moon, as well as their rising and setting points. The face of the Compass uses the same color-coding as the Clock – sky blue for the region of the sky where the sun is above the horizon, and black (with stars) where it’s

  •  Real-time simulations include clouds, city lights, sea ice, and more, generated from actual satellite imagery
  • Clock and compass also show sunrise & sunset; moon phase, rise & set; twilight & transit times
  • Globe and map are fully interactive, using touch-screen or phone sensors
  • Easily show any date, any location
  •  Clock and globe widgets, in 4 sizes each
  •  Live wallpapers for ALL Android devices!

Permissions: Full Internet access

To download the satellite imagery used to make the map and globe. You will need to check network state to ensure that you have a high-speed data connection before downloads take place. For locations of sunrise and sunset times depend on where you are; GPS is used when no network is available. Start at boot, set wallpaper – both essential to making the live wallpaper work. Write SD – for caching images locally.

Terre Time app is a paid version and so you can plan to purchase one at Google play. It Goes for US$ 2.99 only! It is installable in Android v2.0 and up devices.
