Every year, Google hosts a technology conference that aims at sharing new product ideas, platform innovations and interactive experiences with the masses. Google I/O features highly technical, in-depth sessions focused on building web, mobile, and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies such as Android, Chrome, Google APIs, App Engine and much more.

The event took stage yesterday from 0900hrs PDT in San Francisco. Being a global event, there was viewing parties in about 600 locations, in 85 countries, in 6 continents and over 1,000,000 people streaming live as it was happening. I personally attended one view part at JKUAT main campus at New Science Complex Theatre (started 1900hrs of yesterday till morning hours today).

It was an exciting experience at Google I/O extended Jkuat, I felt like being in San Francisco. The Google I/O was being broadcasted here: https://www.google.com/events/io. Sorry if you missed that but you can always keep track I/O 2014 with videos on YouTube.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s Senior Vice President in line of Android OS, Chrome & Apps opened the I/O with the keynote address. He started by sharing the stunning growth in Global Smartphone Shipment of Android phones from 2009 to 2014, now with 1 Billion 30-Day active Users.

Kenya’s MPESA service offered by Safaricom (Kenya’s most popular mobile network provider), was ranked the top story in mobile revolution ever. MPESA has made money transfer easier and instant among Kenyans and even in some countries abroad like Australia and UK. It is the most trusted mobile banking and I can’t wait to see it at global level. MPESA mobile money transfer was born in the year 2007, and its active to date.

Android “L” preview presentation caught everyone’s attention especially with its redesigned UI. The “L” version of Android (which we are yet to know its user predefined name) will feature same vision appearance across Android, Chrome and all of Google. The OS is created using Unified Style Guidelines for different screen-sizes, which were made available at Google.com/design for developers.
