DroidWall - Android Firewall DroidWall – Android Firewall is a front-end application for the powerful iptables Linux firewall. It allows you to restrict which applications are permitted to access your data networks (2G/3G and/or Wi-Fi). This fork of the popular application uses iptables to limit data usage and add security to Android. Droidwall was originally created by developer Rodrigo Zechin Rosauro. The app was discontinued and did not function correctly on Android 4.x. So this is the perfect solution if you don’t have an unlimited data plan, or just wants to see your battery lasting longer.

If you don’t know what root is, please search for Android root which is also available on Google play store. After installing, press menu and click help for an explanation on how to use it.

For advanced users, it also allows you to manually define custom iptables rules. Usually profiles are based off of exported rules files. The rules files contain ALL settings and not just app rules. This means things like Notifications, IPv6, and Logs can be controlled by the profile as well. You can have up to 6 different profiles. They can be quickly activated by the drop down spinner.

  • Set up your options.
  • Export your rules.
  • Menu -> Profile Management -> Create Profile
  • Choose which profile you want to create/modify.
  • Choose the rules file you want to assign to that profile.
  • Load the profile through the menu or through the spinner drop down.

Droidwall has all of the capabilities of Android Firewall. It supports Android 2.2 and greater.

If you install Android Firewall and find that the software does not work correctly please install BusyBox and a Terminal Emulator. Both applications can be found on the Play Store. Open the Terminal Emulator and type “busybox route” without the quotes. Please send an e-mail to me with the output from that command to help in my troubleshooting.

Please remember to disable the firewall before uninstalling, otherwise you will need to reboot your device to turn it off.
