Android System WebView

Android System WebViewAndroid System WebView updated  via Google play store for Lollipop devices only.

WebView is the part of the Android OS responsible for rendering web pages in most Android apps. If you see web content in an Android app, chances are you’re looking at a WebView. The major exception to this rule is Google Chrome for Android, which instead uses its own rendering engine, built into the app.

Therefore, Android Webview is a system component powered by Chrome that allows Android apps to display web content. This component is pre-installed on your device and should be kept up to date to ensure you have the latest security updates and other bug fixes.

This app has been saved from crushes through updates via play store rather than system updates. The changes include ‘Fixed inline video crash issues’ and ‘Added workarounds for graphics driver bugs which were causing some devices to hang.’

In the past few weeks ago, complains have been popping up of apps just crushing. This problem was tracked to WebView. It was noted that apps that used WebViews would just crash or hang without presenting an error message when certain videos and pages were loaded. Not all devices were suffering from the bug, but even the few users that raised complains had to be listened to.

The problem has been solved but ONLY for Android 5.0; older versions of Android gets WebView updates via system updates and not in the Play Store.
